Going to your high school reunion seems like a simple enough affair, but it can easily turn into a nightmare after you find out that none of your fancy clothes fit you anymore. The urge to look your best for this night is like the prom all over again! Don’t worry, there are a lot of hacks you can do, especially when the not-so-big date is a few months away.
Do a little Intermittent Fasting
You do a short fast at night during sleep, and “break” that fast when you eat your first meal for the day, hence the name “breakfast”. There are many protocols you can follow if you want to fast. The 16/8 intermittent fasting (IF) method is one the easiest you can do. You fast for 16 hours and feed for eight. If you had your last meal at 8pm, you perform a fast until noon (skipping breakfast) and eat within an eight hour window.
Another popular IF method is the 20/4 fast, where you extend your night time fast for 20 hours and eat all your meals for the day in just four hours. This is a bit more challenging, as you’ll need to eat a lot of food at night to meet your nutritional requirements. For both the 16/8 and 20/4 fasting protocols, you can only drink water, black coffee or tea without sugar. You’ll also need to supplement with a multivitamin and some fish oil to make up for a few things lacking.
These IF methods can be done daily, with no cheat days required because you’re allowed to eat anything. Of course, you need to stay away from junk food, processed food and sweets. You can also do a full, 24-hour fast, but it will take tremendous willpower on your part to pull it off. If you choose to do a full day fast, it’s safe to do it only once or at the most, twice a week. Once your body gets into a caloric deficit, you’ll be burning fat and losing weight.
Fasted Interval Training
Any form of exercise will get you results, but if you want to make it to the reunion looking nice and trim, you need to do interval training on an empty stomach. Fasted training has been proven to be more effective at targeting fat than training on a full stomach. Choose whatever cardio routine you’re not comfortable with: cycling, running, hill sprints – do whatever takes you out of your comfort zone.
You need to be doing timed intervals. If you choose running, go as fast as you can (@ 100% exertion/full sprint) for 20 seconds, take it easy for 40 seconds (@ 30% exertion/easy jog) and do it again for five rounds. Rest for two minutes and do two or more sets (maximum of 5 rounds). The afterburn effect will have your body burning calories for many hours after your workout.
Slip on some Shapewear
The end is nigh and it’s time to cheat a little bit. If you still can’t quite fit into that black dress, it’s time to call in the cavalry: form fitting shapewear. Shapewear is a girls secret weapon to battle the bulge, flatten the tummy and tuck the muffin top. It doesn’t eliminate the fat in any way, but redistributes and makes it compact enough that renders it unnoticeable when you’re wearing something on top.
The internet is home to a great selection of seamless shapewear and you can choose the best piece of curve-making fabric out there. Just make sure that you’re not getting one that’s too small for you, because smallish shapewear has been known to make bulges worse. Choose a size that fits you perfectly, and let it do its magic.
Unless you have supergirl’s genetics, staying fit and in shape takes hard work, dedication and a little shot of crazy. But if you make a habit out of working out and eating right, you won’t need to take drastic measures just to fit into one of your dresses. You’ll be fit and healthy all year long.
