Canadian Debt – what happens to your tax dollars?

Have you ever wondered what it means when you hear on the news that our government debts are growing? Do you ever wonder where that money comes from, who borrowed it from who and how it’s being repaid and OH, where did the money go?

I have worked my butt off to pay my own debts down and I really wish our government would do the same. If you’re curious what your portion owing of the federal debt is check out the Canadian Debt clock. I owed $16k+ as I’m writing this. Ouch.

  1. Whichever country I hear, they are in debt. Except China and Japan, is there any country which is not in debt?

  2. Interesting breakdown of the Canadian debt/tax situation. At least Canadians who invest in bonds will profit from the government taking on more debt. It is a bit weird how almost all countries function with such massive debt. It's really just like a big ponzi scheme.

  3. I am jealous as an American. The debt in Canada looks much easier to tackle, though still a big challenge. I also wish we only spent 8% on defense. Seeing such a higher percent of spending going to debt interest in this country is so frustrating as well.

  4. It's funny that we are out here beating the debt-free drum, while our kids are learning that everyone does it, including their government. I want out of the game!

  5. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually something

that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated

and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

  6. Whoa! I wish the US was only in debt as much as Canada. We are up to $14 Trillion and have a deficit of $1.5 trillion every year; no health care included.
